You’d have to be living under a rock, under a mountain, on planet Mars to be unaware of the passing of former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela, the subject of wall-to-wall news and social media coverage on an unprecedented global scale. We know there’s little left to be said given the staggering number of tributes but regardless, here is ours.
Nelson Mandela is not, as our bumbling, shape-shifting Prime Minister and leaders say – lost, nor has his light “gone out”. Mandela’s message was a simple one: “Never again should this land [South Africa] see the oppression of one, over another.” The great man saw all people as possessing equal value, and after spending 27 years of his life in hard labour prison, came out and preached peace and forgiveness in the face of absolute tyranny.
If we can all take but an ounce of his passion, dignity, courage and will – the world will be a better place, already forever changed by his towering inspiration and influence.
