Marcus Rashford became England’s youngest player at a European Championship this year, sparking further comparisons between England’s rising star and the story of Alex Hunter, the character in FIFA 17’s new feature, ‘The Journey’, where a 17 year old is trying to break into the footballing world and make it to the top.
After bursting on to the international scene earlier this year, we caught up with Marcus and gave him an exclusive look at ‘The Journey’, this is what he had to say:
“I actually can’t believe how accurate it is, watching Alex, it reminds me of my journey. It definitely reminds me of my experience, when you see Alex go into the manager’s office you don’t know what he’s going to say or what it’s going to be like, so it brings back memories.
There are ups and down for all footballers and that’s shown in Alex’s journey. I just to try to stay level throughout and not get too high when things are going well or too low when things aren’t quite as good.”
Rashford continues: “The Journey is so realistic it’s basically like I am going back to where I started and making my debut. The sets are so realistic it feels like you’re actually there experiencing it in the changing room yourselves.”
We also spoke to Marcus about playing for England, he said “It means a lot to me to represent my country at any level, it’s an honour to do so, but to do it at senior level it’s a big thing so I am just glad to be given the opportunity.”
Matt Prior, Creative Director of FIFA 17, said: “It was pleasure consulting with Marcus on our new FIFA 17 mode, The Journey. In many ways, his rise mirrors that of our character Alex Hunter so it was great to get his insight and feedback. Like many England fans I’m hoping his trajectory continues in EURO 2016.”
Hopefully Marcus Rashford’s journey can have another special moment as England face Iceland in the Round of 16 match, with host nation France waiting on the horizon.
