JAM Wireless Audio is one of the market leaders in portable Bluetooth speakers, so we are very interested in the company’s latest announcement of two new multi-room speaker products, the JAM Symphony and JAM Rhythm.
Offering a healthy balance of quality audio, ease-of-use and build quality at competitive price points, the JAM Symphony (£149.99) and JAM Rhythm (£99.99) speakers are available to buy at stores including Currys & PC World and HMV.
Using your home Wi-Fi network, both speakers can be programmed to deliver stereo sound individually or just left and right channels if you have two or more. Additionally, multiple sources can be assigned to each speaker and then they can be switched, EQ’d and controlled independently, using a very simple mobile app.
The free JAM Wi-Fi Home Audio App will allow users to control speakers from anywhere in the home, with each speaker playing the same source or assigned a different source to each room. One of the best things about the app is it will allow you to use practically any source, with native apps for some of the world’s most popular streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal and TuneIn (Other services including Deezer expected to join that line up soon). But crucially, the app is DNLA and Airplay compatible, opening up non-native streaming sources such as BBC iPlayer and YouTube, which aren’t available via the apps of pricier home Wi-Fi setups from manufacturers like Sonos.
Our favourite, unique feature though is the ability to use the mobile app to turn the speaker into an out-going intercom. It could be great if you want to bark orders at people in other rooms of the house, or let them know dinner’s ready for example.
