Check Out: State Of The Art Cinema Movie Poster Exhibition

FDA Getty Gallery Event

Movie fans and iconic image lovers alike, you need to get yourselves down to the State Of The Art Cinema movie poster exhibition across London this summer.

Organised by the Film Distributor’s Association, the free exhibition showcases some of the powerful and eye-catching imagery created for some of this year’s biggest movie releases. Demonstrating how great design and composition can arrest our attention and drive millions of us to the cinema each week.

Despite their obvious commercial purpose, many posters have become collector’s items as the artistry that has gone into their creation has transcended their basic advertising purpose. At this week’s launch event hosted by Alex Zane and Sue Perkins, we caught up with self-confessed movie poster obsessive Sue to ask her about her love of the iconic signage.

CJ: Do you have a favourite poster in the exhibition?

Sue: I’m not a fan of horror, but the poster that really stands out for me is a red and black poster with a graphical design. It’s got trees but in between them there are knife blades, I think it’s for a film called “In Fear”.

Polish PosterCJ: Do you actually collect any posters yourself?

Sue: I do yea, I’m really into 60s/70s posters, I started with Alfred Hitchcocks but they can get quite pricey so I moved into collecting Polish movie posters.

CJ: What’s so special about Polish posters?

Sue: They’re so graphic! Go online and look up the Polish movie poster for Crocodile Dundee II, I promise you it will be one of the coolest bits of graphic art you’ll have seen in a very long time. It’s a terrible film, but an amazing piece of art!
