The New Braun CoolTec: The Coolest Shaver EVER …Literally

The new Braun CoolTec shaver is a thing of beauty, not only because it looks good, but from a technological point of view, what they’ve achieved has never been done before.

After six years of development, the scientists at Braun have managed to create a shaver that cools your skin as you shave without the use of some additional funky menthol/refreshing gel. No. Braun’s CoolTech shaver has a Thermo-Electric-Cooling (Tec) element inside it, made from Aluminium, that utilises the same technology as a typical household refrigerator, but yet somehow it’s the size of a mobile phone battery.

One of the things that bug me most about shaving is the irritation I get from repeatedly rubbing a shaver against my face, it makes me hot and makes my cheeks red. But with the CoolTech, that irritation is significantly reduced. The picture above of my colleague’s big cheeks shows the difference in temperature on the surface area of his skin after using the CoolTec, as represented by the darker areas.

As you can see, it makes a big difference, but admittedly, it is a very strange sensation at first. Never before in all my years of shaving has my face been cooled by the shaver itself. Usually I have to use cold water or a shaving balm to calm down my burning face.

Aside from the “cool stuff”, the performance of the Braun CoolTec is impressive, thanks to it’s SensoBlade that is designed to shave hair that grows in different directions, it left my skin smoother than my previous shaver with half the effort and a lot less skin irritation and it can also be used in the shower if you’re into that kind of thing.

Of course, this level of impressive shaving tech comes at a price, at around £199, but the lowest price we’ve seen is £135 on Amazon. If you can’t afford it yet, it’s definitely one worth sticking on your Christmas list!
