Movember Diary: Week 1 – The Shavedown

baby-in-suitIt’s Movember, that time of the year when men around the world grow and groom moustaches to raise money and awareness for health causes that affect us all.

I do love getting involved but I can’t stand the first few days when I’ve had to shave down and then spend the week scaring myself every time I catch my reflection. Worse still looking like a child and trying to act authoritative and serious around  people who know my otherwise manly face.

Movember is aiming to raise money to fund vital research to tackle issues such as Prostate and Testicular cancer, but also encourage men to avoid shying away from health concerns and getting themselves checked up regularly. Half of the battle is being proactive when it comes to maintaining good health. The great thing about Movember is that growing a tache (if you’re not a hipster and don’t usually sport one) helps start conversations and gets people thinking about serious issues without being preachy. I’ll be writing a post a week on my Mo-inspired interactions so feel free to check back in and see how I’m getting on.

So far, Movember has helped to raise over £346million and has funded over 800 countries in 21 countries. If you want to get involved, head over to Movember.com sign up and grow that mo!
