Fans of hit video game series Uncharted are in for a real treat as Three UK and Sony Xperia Z5 are launching an innovative, real-life Uncharted adventure. Based on the streets of London players are guided through their smartphones by the voice of the game hero, Nathan ‘Nate’ Drake, himself.
Using the latest geo-tagging technology, voice messages from Nathan Drake, all recorded by actor Nolan North (the voice of Drake in the Uncharted series), have been ‘dropped’ into locations across London for people to discover on their smartphones. When players enter the London locations containing Nathan Drake’s voice messages, the recordings will play through their smartphones via a downloaded app ‘Recho’, with the roguish treasure hunter’s iconic voice providing a cryptic clue to the next destination.
Each location contains a message from Nathan Drake that links back to famous events and characters from the three blockbuster Uncharted video games: Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
Players that successfully solve each of the clues provided by Nathan Drake and find their way to the final location will be rewarded with Sony and Three UK treasures. The first lucky player to complete the challenge will be rewarded with a Sony Playstation 4 console and all other players will have the chance to win the brand new Sony Z5 handset, Three Pay As You Go SIMs, copies of Unchartered: The Nathan Drake Collection, and various other prizes.
As with any treasure hunt however, it’s a case of finders keepers. The Nathan Drake audio messages will remain in their locations for players to discover until all of the treasure has been claimed.
The real-life Uncharted adventure has been made possible through the use of new sound-tagging smartphone application called Recho. The technology allows for the placement of audio messages at any location, which can then be listened to by other users of the app. Users need only walk around a location with the app activated on their smartphones to discover if an audio diary is in their vicinity.
