We had a chance to get hands-on with one of the latest VR gaming experiences on Oculus, Killing Floor: Incursion and it is bloody, fun and freaky in equal measure.

The recently launched FPS from developer Tripwire Interactive presents a gruesome world full of hybrid zombies and numerous thrilling ways to brutally combat them, including chopping off zombie limbs and then picking them up to clobber the hoards of zombies relentlessly coming at you.

Hands-on with Killing Floor Incursion

If you’re familiar with the Killing Floor series you will feel right at home in this virtual reality port, however it’s a significantly more immersive and intense experience. Currently exclusive to Oculus Rift, Killing Floor: Incursion requires Oculus Touch to play, which intelligently delivers on the the first person nature of the title. Although the Tripwire has said they expect to launch the game on Steam and Vive by the end of 2017.

Killing Floor + Oculus Touch

How responsive is the touch aspect of the game you ask? Raising your arms and reaching for the machete’s mounted on your character’s back will equip you with large blades that can be used to hack and slash or thrown, for example. Oculus Touch allows you to really get hands-on with this title and makes the experience of battling horrifying creatures all the more visceral.

The combat is frantic at times and rendered crisply and the soundscaping and pacing of the game does a great job of creating an edgy atmosphere. Enjoy Killing Floor: Incursion solo or in Co-op mode where team work genuinely seems to pay off, the only element of the game that may hold it back for some is the movement mechanism that forces you to point at your next step to walk there. It makes the combat slightly less dynamic than it could be. However, the first impressions we had of the game were positive and found it fun and easy to dive into.
