World Cup Stars Honoured at Wembley During First NFL London Game

Two months after their heroic victory against India in the final of the Women’s World Cup, seven members of the England Cricket team were presented to a packed Wembley crowd during the first of the NFL London Games between Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars. The team received a standing ovation as Wembley rose to celebrate the World Cup victors.

Katherine Brunt, England’s prolific fast bowler, was interviewed pitch side by Sam Quek, Olympic Gold medallist. Katherine said, “This is my first live NFL game – it is a privilege to  go on the pitch in front of a packed Wembley Stadium.”

When asked if her bowling skills would make her a good quarterback, Katherine said: “I can’t quite the spin the ball but I would love a run-out at running back!” 

Anya Shrubsole, England fast bowler and avid New York Jets fan, said “This is an incredible experience. I’ve been to one pre-season game in New York before, but the atmosphere here is much betterI’m looking forward to the rest of the game and seeing some touchdowns!

Tammy Beaumont, England opening bat and Player of the Tournament, said: “Walking out in front of a full Wembley stadium and hearing so many people cheering our names is a great feeling and an experience I will never forget.

Gracing the field was Anya Shrubsole, Katherine Brunt, Tammy Beaumont, Laura Marsh, Natalie Sciver, Fran Wilson and Beth Langston.
