Pax 3 Review – The iPhone of Vaporisers

Pax 3 is the iPhone of vaporisers, and could easily be mistaken for a gadget created by the giant from Cupertino, but is it any good? Let’s see if the Pax 3 has substance to back up its looks.

Pax 3: The premium loose-leaf vaporiser

  • Intelligent features and smartphone app
  • Slick design and solid build
  • Lip-sensing tech that adjusts vape according to your draw frequency
  • Superb portability to vape-quality ratio
  • Magnetic oven door and charging dock
  • 3,500mAh built-in battery (1-2 hour charge time, provides up to 90 minutes of use on average)

Pax 3 – Look and feel

Designed in the heart of Silicon Valley, Pax 3 is the iPhone of vaporisers, delivering a beautifully sleek design aesthetic, cutting-edge features and a reliable, consistent vaping experience.

The Pax 3 is 4-inches tall and about an inch in width, slipping easily into pockets, it also comes with a sleeve to prevent its anodised aluminium surface from being scratched. It’s comfortable to hold and has a good weight to it that suggests quality construction. Pax has cleverly incorporated its controls into the top of the device, which keeps its body free of buttons and contributing to its attractive minimalistic look.

One of the things that separate the Pax 3 from the competition is its companion app that offers in-depth control over the device’s functionality, including vape density, flavour profile and temperature modes. You can also lock it to prevent others from using your vape.

Pax 3 – Vaping

It takes up to 20 seconds for the Pax 3 to heat up and it can provide haptic and visual feedback to let you know when its ready. The Pax 3, is suitable for dry matter as well as concentrates and gives the user total control over their vaping preferences. In the box, you get two mouth piece options. The default flat option is barely noticeable, making it good for places where discretion is required – cinemas, offices etc.

However, it doesn’t offer much purchase for lips which feels less satisfying. It also means you’re in direct contact with the metal surface of its body, which can get very warm during extended periods of high-heat vaping. The raised silicone mouth piece provides the some distance between your moth and the device, and I actually prefer its smooth shape to the straw-style mouth pieces you often get on larger vapes. In my experience, continuous use of straw mouth pieces can cause cuts and sores in the middle of the bottom lip – particularly during cold weather spells. The raised mouth-piece of the Pax 3 avoids that issue.

Pax 3 – Oven options

Three options are available to you: a full oven lid (0.35g), half oven lid (0.17g), and an insert for vaporising concentrates – all with magnetic closures. It’s worth noting that when using the concentrate you have to be careful not to tilt the device too much or the fluid will seep out. The half oven option is also a clever addition as it helps to conserve your herb when you only have time for a quick session. A lot of vaporisers don’t offer the ability to reduce the oven size, so this is a great option to have.

It’s recommended you empty your oven after every session and clean your device regularly (around every 10 uses). Thankfully cleaning tools are provided in the box. This may be one downside of the Pax 3 as a number of other vapes require less maintenance by design. But that said, it’s not difficult to clean its mouth piece, vapour tunnel and oven.

Pax 3 – Companion App

The Pax 3 carves a neat niche for itself with its slick companion app, which allows you to customise your vape and gives you control over its dynamic vaping modes. You can also protect your vape from unauthorised use inside the app. Handily, Pax has also created tutorials, that live within the app to help you get the best out of your Pax 3.

Pax 3 – Modes

  • Standard: As described, good for general use.
  • Boosted: Increases temperature quicker and delays cool down, ideal when time is constrained.
  • Flavour Mode: Designed to enhance the flavour of your vapour. Fast temperature increase and cool down.
  • Stealth: For when you need to vape and don’t want to attract too much attention. Less vapour and scent, quick cool down and dimmed lights.
  • Efficiency Mode: Extends battery life by reducing oven temperature increase

Pax 3 – VERDICT

Pax 3 is a thoughtfully designed piece of kit, looks great and performs consistently well. There are perhaps better options available if you’re willing to compromise on portability and mostly vape in the home. However, if you want a vaporiser that goes everywhere you go, without hassle or bulk, Pax 3 is currently one of the best options available. It also makes a superb gift because it’s so beautifully packaged. If Apple made a vaporiser, it would be the Pax 3.
