Valentine’s Day Limerick Competition launched by John Cooper Clarke Inspired by Kraken Rum

Forget ‘roses are red, violets are blue’ this Valentine’s Day, The Kraken Black Spiced Rum locks tentacles with notorious punk poet John Cooper Clarke to inspire the nation to write love limericks sharper than Cupid’s arrows

Shall I compare thee to a mighty sea beast? Poetry has always proven a suitable recourse for starry-eyed suitors on Valentine’s Day, but this year the nation’s verses are about to get PUNK, as The Kraken Black Spiced Rum has linked its tentacles with the notorious wordsmith John Cooper Clarke to inspire budding bards to explore the darker side of love.

Launching the most beastly poetry competition the UK has ever seen with a specially commissioned verse written and read by John Cooper Clarke himself, the lusty lyricists who prove their love is as deep as the darkest ocean and impress The ‘Beast’ will win a limited-edition bottle of ‘Kraken Blaken’. All they have to do is submit limericks directly to The Beast, via its digital lair The League of Darkness at www.theleagueofdarkness.co.uk.
And what is this Valentine’s black magic? Well, the Beast has created a limited number of the darkest and rarest bottles of Kraken Rum [or any other spirit we’ve seen] ever made!

When it comes to bottles this special, they can’t possibly be delivered by anyone else – which is where ‘The Kraken Rumantics’ delivery service come in… And this time they’re on milk floats! Yes, you read it right: Kraken’s special Rumantics biker fraternity has parked up its high end horsepower motor bikes and temporarily swapped them with a fleet of blackened and betentacled eco-friendly, battery powered milk floats driven by the Beast’s most dedicated milkmen and women. The show-stopping floats will be arriving at front doors in London and Glasgow to deliver the dark delights, guaranteeing a night of unforgettable rumance.

Fear not aspiring poets and fans of The Mighty beast who live outside of those cities though, as a limited few of the Kraken Rumantics Valentine’s Day gifts will be made available online, via The League of Darkness, to ensure none of the Beast’s subjects are left broken hearted this February!

The Bard Of Salford and ‘I Wanna Be Yours’ star, John Cooper Clarke, said: “The mighty pen, like the mighty Kraken, can have a huge impact on the heart. You can find love anywhere, from the depths of the sea to the person sat beside you on your commute to work. With a career spanning six decades John Cooper Clarke is loved the world over and has cultivated a huge and loyal following of fans young and old. Having shot to prominence in the 70s when he toured with the likes of the Sex Pistols, Joy Division and New Order, his influence on pop culture is just as strong today. In recent years he has collaborated with the likes of Plan B and the Arctic Monkeys who both cite John as a huge inspiration. One of his most famous poems, I Wanna Be Yours was covered by the Arctic Monkeys on their critically acclaimed fifth studio album ‘AM’.

John’s latest, chart-topping poetry collection “The Luckiest Guy Alive” was published in the UK and worldwide by Macmillan in 2018 and his official memoir will be published later this year.

The Kraken Rumantics competition runs from Monday 3rd – Wednesday 12th February, with the legendary sea creature delivering the winning entries to our beastly bards via The Kraken’s Milk Floats on Friday 14th February in London and Glasgow.
