New Sleep App Championed by Rugby Super Stars Maro Itoje and Jamie Roberts

Sleep is vital, which is why Simba has launched a new sleep app with a pro-sleep trainer team including rugby super star Maro Itoje and Jamie Roberts.

Sleep is often seen as a passive activity, we lie in bed and wait for it to happen. Well not anymore!

On a mission to inspire the nation to take sleep more seriously, Simba is encouraging a step change in our perception to our nightly routine by instead promoting an active approach to slumber as it launches its new national #TryFor8 campaign.

Sleep technology brand Simba recently unveiled its new Simba Sleep App to encourage Brits to start taking sleep seriously, as research* shows that many of us only get around 6 hours sleep a night.

sleep app scheduleThe Simba Sleep App combines real-time sleep tracking with data taken from more than 3400 sleepers to create nine sleep personas, each with their own personalised training programme, uniquely tailored to support a better night’s sleep.

As well as the sleep tracker, sleep profiling and personal sleep training programmes, the companion app supports Simba’s new campaign #TryFor8 which aims to get the nation spending 8 hours in bed every night.

Sleep App Features

The #TryFor8 section is full of helpful advice from the new Simba pro-sleep trainer team, which includes rugby superstars Maro Itoje and Dr Jamie Roberts plus health and wellbeing expert Peta Bee.

In the app, Simba and the pro-sleep trainers will support sleepers to #TryFor8 hours in bed each night, through an eight-week challenge sleep training schedule. New challenges will be released each week, across amateur, semi-pro and pro difficulty levels, aimed at highlighting the benefits of giving sleep the same structure and discipline as a gym or nutrition regime.

Each week, users will receive pro-coaching, tips and encouragement around a sleep theme to tackle sleep from all angles, from rugby superstar Maro Itoje, and the elite Simba sleep trainers – Jamie Roberts, the rugby legend and qualified medical doctor, and Peta Bee the health and fitness specialist, to help them reset and rework their sleep routine to improve performance and recovery

Whether it’s what you eat and drink before bed, or what you take away with you when you travel, it all starts with the call to try for 8 hours in bed every night.

Users will get regular notifications to help achieve their goals and their progress will be tracked through biometric data on their smartphones and Apple watch.

Analysing data from over 3400 sleepers, Simba has developed nine sleep personas – Wriggler, Heavy Sleeper, Catcher Upper, Thinker, Early Bird, Light Sleeper, Night Owl, Maverick and Sleep Master. Each sleep programme on the app uses adapted content to offer personalised support to each of these nine types of sleeper, with tips and advice aimed at combating their key individual sleep issues.

The most common persona among Brits is the Wriggler, with nearly 39% of people unable to relax and stay in the same position to be able to sleep properly. The least common sleeper is the Sleep Master, with only 2% of people in the UK being in tune with their body clock and getting good a sleep each night.

Not only will users be provided with no-nonsense tips and tricks for better sleep, but they will also get mind over matter advice, nutritional suggestions and exercise and fitness suggestions, all designed to improve the chances of getting a good night’s sleep.

Sleep Like The Pros

In one of the biggest years of his rugby career, Maro Itoje has been focused on his sleep routine, as well as the rest of his game, and believes that sleep is just as important as training and nutrition when it comes to delivering a great mental and physical performance on the pitch. Maro, said: “Sleep is directly linked to how much energy I have, my performance, my output in the gym and on the training field. The more you sleep, the more you are able to train harder, be more alert and attentive. It’s a game changer.”

Sleep App ambassadorsWith a focus on the link between sleep and recovery, international Welsh rugby player and member of the Simba pro-sleep training team, Dr Jamie Roberts, said: “Muscle recovery is driven by your central nervous system, when you sleep your system is recovering. We talk in the app about optimising muscle recovery through optimal sleep. Unless sleep properly, you’re not going to get the benefits from training.”

Steve Reid CEO and co-founder of Simba Sleep: “The new Simba Sleep App has been developed to give sleepers the support and motivation needed to take sleep as seriously as their exercise and nutrition regimes, and that starts with the simple step of trying to spend 8 hours in bed every night.

“Inspired by our work with experts in sleep, psychology and neuroscience the app empowers you to make small positive changes to your routine – so you can improve your wellness with your eyes closed.

“There is no better performance enhancer than sleep and the written, video and visual content we have created for the Simba Sleep app and the #TryFor8 campaign is personalised to each user ensuring they get the best advice for their sleep type.”
